As a Certified Wildlife Biologist with over 30 years experience in natural resource management I have provided technical assistance to private landowners on over 1.5 million acres of Texas rangeland.  A range and wildlife graduate of Texas A&I University (Texas A&M-Kingsville), I was a senior staff biologist for Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for 27 years.  My experience includes all aspects of big game management, game bird management, non-game wildlife management, wildlife research, livestock management, water management, and habitat management including prescribed burns.    As a private consultant, I am able to spend unlimited productive time with my clients at their ranch.  I can design and implement a complete ranch and wildlife program to fit your needs.  The network of professional contacts I’ve made during my career  as a Wildlife Biologist can also be utilized to expand on the needs of the individual client. 

I have authored the following books publications including  Brand New Release "Common Woody Plants & Cacti Of South Texas" which is an updated version of the very popular Brush Book -- “A Field Guide to Common South Texas Shrubs".  I have also authored a number of articles on hunting, game management andburhs management including... “Brush Management for White-tailed Deer”,  “The Feral Hog in Texas” and “The Javelina in Texas."  I currently serve on the advisory board for the Wildlife Department at Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde and also an adjunct wildlife instructor.  Having one of my offices located at the Southwest Texas Junior College, I have access to numerous young, energetic, wildlife students and interns that are willing to assist me in game management endeavors.  As a licensed Texas Real Estate Broker specializing in farms and ranches, Rick can provide professional natural resource assistance and experience for the buyer and seller which provides that "Hands On" experience and expertise that many farm and ranch sales agents lack.

James B. “Buck”  Laning has been actively involved in farm and ranch real estate for over 30 years in Uvalde, Texas . 

During that 30 years, he has been involved in the sale of over $200,000,000 worth of farms and ranches. With sales activity ranging from San Antonio to Brownsville to Del Rio to Van Horn, Texas, he has covered all of South and West Texas.   Buck grew up in Uvalde, Texas and like most young boys in rural Texas, he loved football and hunting.  He grew spending every spare minute during hunting season pursuing Big Bucks.  Hence hsi nickname "Buck".  Buck played tackle and linbacker on the State Champpionship Team of 1972 and then received a football scholarship to Rice University.  He graduated in 4 years and eaned his Degree with a Managerial Studies major.  After a few years of working in two technology jobs,  Buck joined up with his father, Jake Laning, and started developing farm and ranch real estate with several partnerships.  Those efforts finally evolved into a career of farm and ranch brokerage and real estate appraisal.  Buck has been involved with agriculatural properties his whole life.  Livestock ranching, farming, hunting properties, farma nd ranch appraisals and ranch development are a BIG part of Buck's background and expereince.

 

Over the years, Buck has appraised a number of high profile agricultural and commercial properties including:  Briscoe Ranch Inc., Nunley Ranches, Travelers Insurance, Gulf Oil Resources, White Mines, Inc., The Pickens Corp., Reagan Family Trust, IBC Bank, First State Bank of Uvalde, Frost Bank, First National Bank of Uvalde, City of Uvalde, Tubular Steel Corp., Currie Ranch Trust, Barnes Brothers Lumber Co., Allegiance Crane Co., AAA Mini-Storage, Union National Bank of Laredo, Dunbar Estate Ranches, Odiorne Estate properties, Hargrove Ranches, Manry Estate Ranches, Carnes Farms, and  for various other landowners, borrowers, attorneys, and entities.

 

Buck considers himself a Family Man and has been married to Kim Laning, the Love of  His Life for 33 years.  They have 3 Wonderful, Grown Children - James B. Laning, Jr. (J. J.); Zack Laning, and Kathleen Laning. Buck is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Uvalde and has been active in the Walk To Emmaus ministry, the Chrysalis Youth ministry, the Kairos prison ministry. Buck taught the Sr. High Sunday School Class for 25 years and was a youth sponsor for the church youth group for 15+ years.
